Dear Creative Directors at Spencers…

I was going through my daily dose of Jezebel.com and came across this article: “Spencer’s Gifts Hate Women.” Some of this holiday gift shirts are pretty appalling and really not necessary. Do guys think they’ll become the ‘shit’ by wearing these around town? I can only imagine the d-bags at college campuses stocking up on these and gleaming when they get that high five from fellow d-bags as they walk down the hall in Spencers honor. Do they not realize that people that wear these shirts are demeaning females including their mom, sisters, cousins, etc. Men need to grow up and realize that this type of mindset is really a turn off for the female population. So please, creative directors at Spencers…get some more creativity. Take a look below for more photos of these great photos!

Well, phew I wasn't sure where the guidebook was.

Infographic – Inside The Mind Of A Freelancer

All of my freelancer friends out there, what do you think of this infographic from Mashable this past June? According to the article, being a freelancer isn’t so bad these days. I definitely don’t regret my choice of quitting my full-time job and going rogue. My work/life balance hasn’t been better, I’m able to be my own boss, and I’ve been able to become a more responsible adult in the sense that I don’t just have cash growing on trees to help me with my rent and bills. All in all, going freelance seems to be a common lifestyle choice these days, and I hope you’re all happy going rogue and just ‘doing you!’

“The good news is that according to the study, the longer you freelance, the happier you’ll be beating to your own drum.”

Girls & Font

I love me some good typography. That’s why I enjoyed reading this article by Imprint from June about one of my favorite summer shows on HBO, Girls. Here’s a snippet from the article:

Each episode opens with a static shot of the show’s title filling the screen, in place of a more complex sequence. No animation, no video—just text on a solid background. The colors change from week to week; Nourmand calls this “a playful touch,” but it also creates a palette that builds in sophistication with the series. The stripped-down simplicity perfectly matches Dunham’s vision. There are no tutus or glamour shots of the Chrysler Building, just a direct and elegant typeface inviting us in.

It was really interesting to see the process of creating these different fonts and styles by the agency behind the custom “Girls” typeface. Can’t wait to get my hands dirty and learn more about typography in the coming months!

Ogilvy is a boss.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=gVsOzR6tzIM#!]

This video was for Ogilvy’s 60th Anniversary Forever Red Party in 2008, and pretty much showcases why this advertising tycoon has always been on top. As an advertising lover, I can definitely appreciate this video as well as be extremely inspired! Check out this book below that I found in a vintage bookstore in Old City for $5. The knowledge received from Ogilvy is priceless though.

Oh, You Fancy! – My review on TheFancy.com

I just wrote a review on TheFancy.com yesterday (on the awesome social media marketing blog I contribute to monthly called Bad Rhino Rumblings), and I highly recommend you all:

A) Read my review, thanks!

and

B) Check out The Fancy itself! The site is a cool spin-off of Pinterest, but allows you to buy straight from the site. The funky items and products you’ll find will never give you an excuse to give lame presents to friends and family from now on.

I mean where else could you find the following items:

Hand want pencils.

Speaking of random hands in pop culture, hello Wednesday Addams.

What happened? Oh right, a shark bite. My bad.

Let me know what you think of the site after you take it for a spin! :)
